Canyon de Chelly NM protects and preserves ruins of the ancestral puebloans to the Navajo (perhaps the Anasazi). The monument covers three major canyons and all ruins contained within. Navajo guides and park rangers only can lead visitors to the canyon floor to view the ruins — with the exception of the White House Ruin Trail. Scenic views can be garnered via the North and South Rim Drives, and local Navahoans peddle their self-made goods and jewelry at many pull-offs.
