Colgate Licks Nature Trail is a one mile loop just off the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway (Route 12). Father-in-law Richard and I stumbled upon this one on our Lewis and Clark journey back in 2009. A natural mineral lick has likely attracted animals here for thousands of years. The trail meanders through a lodgepole and ponderosa pine forest (part of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest) and along the Lochsa River. This was a wonderful break on our drive to Big Hole National Battlefield.
