In the summer of 2019, I rented a cabin on Douglas Lake in Tennessee for family to visit for some serious R&R. We had no agendas, save enjoying each other’s company, eating some good food, and exploring the area a little. We made it to Pigeon Forge a couple of times (for meals and souveniring), Gatlinburg once (Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies), and Great Smoky Mountains NP twice (once on a rafting trip to the Upper Pigeon River, the other time to Cades Cove). We even found a lovely (and delicious) whiskey distillery dangerously close to our cabin (Tennessee Legend, and we recommend Salted Caramel Whiskey over vanilla ice cream and Canebreak Bourbon Whiskey over one ice cube!). Needless to say, all of us had a very good time — and there are already calls for a return trip.
