Hey Texas Governor Greg Abbott. As a practicing (?) Roman Catholic, what book of the Bible were you reading when you decided to transport and unceremoniously dump over 100 vulnerable women, men, children, and babies near the U.S. Naval Observatory (home to sitting Vice President Kamala Harris) on a very cold Christmas Eve — migrants guilty only of seeking a better life in America? I’m guessing it wasn’t Luke 2:1-8, where Mary and Joseph travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem and Mary gives birth to the baby Jesus in a manger. I think you need to start with this letter from James (2: 14-17): “My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it? Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. What if one of you said, ‘Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!?’ What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs? In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity.” Even a heathen like me knows this.
