Zion is another of our absolutely gorgeous parks — and truly a hikers’ paradise. The landscape here is simply spectacular on so many levels. From impressive sandstone cliffs to narrow slot canyons, you will find yourself snapping lots and lots of pictures. This is a shuttle park in one large section, so you will have to plan your day trips and activities accordingly. The two campgrounds, South and Watchman, fill up quickly in summer months so reservations are always recommended. The hikes here range from easy (The Narrows, Emerald Pools, Canyon Overlook) to challenging (Observation, Hidden Canyon, Angels Landing — the last two for which you’d better love heights!). If you can’t get into the campgrounds here, the town of Springdale on the border of the park has a number of accommodations — and good restaurants. I personally prefer the Best Western Zion Canyon Inn because it lies across the street from the tubing outtake on the Virgin River, a great afternoon activity on those typically hot summer days. So convenient!
