Okay, so Christians, if you are still supporting Donald Trump nearly two years into his presidency, well, shame on you. I somewhat get why you supported him going into the 2016 election (even though he clearly was not religious at all). He was a Republican who espoused and supported Christian causes and beliefs (though a flip-flopper on abortion). He wooed evangelicals by appearing with leaders across the religious spectrum. He embraced (though from my perspective hypocritically) the family values platform of the Republican party.
But now, given all that has happened in the last two years, the fact that you still stand with him is an insult to the teachings of the bible. His short list of dalliances is as impressive as it is depressive: affairs with porn stars; language and insults unbecoming of any adult, let alone President of the United States; an inability to call out racism and bigotry when both rear their ugly heads; his obvious lack of respect and reverence for women (including his own wife); tax evasion, and likely tax fraud. Are these examples of fine, upstanding Christian values?
And don’t even try the “but he has made good on all of his promises” argument. ANY Republican would have nominated conservative judges or used presidential powers to promote a pro-business agenda. ANY Republican would have introduced a tax plan and supported an immigration bill (though no other would have tried to build a stupid wall!). And he certainly hasn’t “drained the swamp” – he’s hired it, then had to fire it (SEE Flynn, Priebus, Bannon, Price, Cohn, McMaster, Tillerson, McCabe, Pruitt – the complete list is much longer than this!).
Is he a role model? Is he leading a good Christian life? Do you watch him with wonder and tell your children, “I want you to grow up and be just like Donald Trump”?
How many times has he attended church in the last two years? By contrast, how many times he has played golf?
Lastly, would you trust him to be alone with your wife or daughter?
If Trump had ever spent any time studying the bible, he would certainly recognize that the life he is living, that the presidency he is leading, are NOT “the way, the truth, and the life.” But don’t listen to my words – listen to words from the bible itself.
From Colossians 3:8: “But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth.”
From Ephesians 4:29: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
From Matthew 5:28: “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
From Colossians 3:12: “As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
From Hebrews 13:5: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.”
From James 1:19: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
And finally, from Matthew 5:5-8: “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Sad that a heathen like me continually has to point this out to you.
