I wish Republican politicians — and Republican Supreme Court Justices — would stop using the specious state’s rights stance as their go-to when explaining positions on any range of issues like abortion or guns (as in “each state should decide what it wants to do concerning abortion or assault weapons”). We fought a civil war to settle the states’ rights argument — and to end slavery — and that side came in second — as in they lost. We are now the United States of America, not the Separated States of America. I also wish Democrats would start pointing this out on a regular basis — as in 24/7/365.
